Home of UST

Ultrasonic Technologies (UST) - is an electronic equipment company that manufactures precision tools and quality control systems for diagnostics and detection of cracks and stress in silicon (Si) based wafers and solar cells for Photovoltaic (PV) and integrated circuits manufacturing.

UST Mission - is to design and manufacture high accuracy and reliability systems and devices for quality control and process inspection for solar cell and renewable energy industries.

UST Systems -

  • make detection of physical cracks and mechanical stress in manufacturing process easy and affordable, providing a pass/fail signal with a rate of 1 wafer per 2 seconds matching a throughput of productions lines.
  • increase efficiency of solar modules via enabling PV industry to manufacture solar cells and modules of the highest quality.
  • easily integrated into every stage of the solar cell production. This enables manufacturers to significantly increase yield, keep high throughput, and reduce production cost.

Solar Cell Inspection: Taking A Closer Look

Forget about the days when an estimated global capacity of 25 MW was something to boast about; today, a single manufacturer can run multiple 25 MW production lines, routinely turning out 20,000 to 30,000 cells per day.

Of course, fabrication is only half the battle. A product can't succeed unless it performs. That makes solar cell inspection, whether for quality assurance or process control, absolutely essential.

    Pinhole Detection using RUV System.

Ultrasonic Technologies developed a proprietary method to identify silicon wafers and solar cells with small, sub-millimeter “Pinhole” defects and cracks. “Pinhole” represents a seed point anomaly which dramatically reduces wafer and cell strength and ultimately leads to breakage and yield reduction. UST researched and developed an Activating Station add-on which is once integrated with our RUV system allows successful detection of “Pinhole” cracks.

Wasting money in the solar factory.

Typical cell manufacturing line with a capacity of 1800 cells/hr, suffers a loss of 500K to more than 2 million Euros each year due to cell and wafer breakage during production.

Ultrasonic Technologies and RUV Systems conducted an extensive research and production study proving that the RUV system will decrease production breakage by 21% and up to an extraordinary 88% reduction in cell and wafer breakage.
